How to Lather Shaving Soap

There are three ways to use and lather a shaving soap. You should choose the method that’s most convenient for you. However, to get the most out of your shaving soap, we recommend building the lather in a bowl or mug before application, as it yields the maximum amount of lather per shave, which is best for a large area of shaving needs. Below is a video that demonstrates the lathering in a bowl or mug method.

3 Ways to Use and Lather A Shaving Soap

Steps To Follow When Using A Shaving Brush With The 3 Methods

  1. Let the soap soak for few minutes in your shaving bowl with a little bit of warm water.

Our soap is hard and needs to be softened before lathering for maximum yield. Hard soaps also last much longer than softer soaps.

Soak shaving soap with warm water for a few minutes, also known as blooming.

  2. Soak your brush in sink or mug with warm water for a few minutes as well.

A well-hydrated brush will build lather quicker and richer. This step is not necessary, but depending on your brush type—natural hair or syntactic—lathering feel may be different.

  3. While the soap (and brush) soaks, wash your skin with warm water thoroughly to soften the hair and to hydrate the skin.

If you’ve just taken a shower—preferred—consider this step done. If your shave is not preceded by a shower, please take your time on this step. It’s super important to take care of your skin before applying a blade against it.

Lather Shaving Soap in Hands without Shaving Brush

This method came directly from customers who use the shaving soap refill pucks. You may employ this method if you don’t have a shaving brush or bowl/mug, but we do not guarantee its effectiveness. Surprisingly, some customers even use the shaving soap as their face wash. Again, not intended to be used that way, but we appreciate that our customers find the soap as a multipurpose product and love the results.

  1. Wet your hands with the soap and rub it in the hands until a thick layer of soap has transferred over.

  2. Put aside the soap and rub your hands together in a circular motion until the desired lather has formed.

  3. You may need to add drops of water to activate the soap effectively.

  4. Apply the lather from your hands and shave with your favorite razor.
